In recent years, public discourse has been shaped by intense scrutiny of leadership behaviours – many leaders have been called out, sometimes publicly shamed, for actions or language perceived as exclusive or out of step with evolving social norms. In addition, today’s leaders face mounting pressure to take positions on complex social issues while maintaining credibility and cohesion within diverse teams.
Our latest workshop offering, Everyday Tools to Build Trust, equips leaders to respond constructively in awkward or high-stakes moments, without fear-based paralysis.
“This module will strengthen leaders’ ability to create trust through everyday actions. It helps with developing skills to role-model fairness, uphold dignity, and navigate feedback and accountability constructively - especially important in a climate of growing cultural complexity, social division and rapidly evolving norms,” says Te Uru Tāngata Centre for Workplace Inclusion Chief Executive Maretha Smit.
“Leaders need more than just policy understanding - they need self-awareness, cultural humility, the ability to uphold psychological safety, and the skills to lead through tension and polarisation.”
The new three-hour workshop provides practical, repeatable tools for trust-building in daily leadership practice.
“If your leaders feel like they are walking on eggshells, or they are unsure how to navigate shifting norms and language in a diverse team environment, this session is the perfect place to develop confidence and deeper capabilities.
“It’s not about perfect words or political correctness - it’s about everyday choices that foster trust, show care, and honour the dignity of others.
The workshop is designed for people leaders and middle managers who want to foster strong, values-based teams—particularly those navigating cultural complexity or leading in high-trust, high-stakes environments.
It also supports senior leaders, HR practitioners, and culture champions seeking practical tools to uphold inclusive values and reinforce team cohesion. The session is relevant across sectors and is especially valuable in regulated or public-facing industries.
“In divided times, leaders who can hold steady in discomfort and lead with respect will define the future of work,” Maretha says.
The workshop is available as corporate training, for a group of participants from one organisation. It will also be part of our regular public events calendar, with the first online workshop scheduled for Wednesday, 10 September. Book your place now.
